This week I had the opportunity to meet Makaila Palmer whom is a lovely person with exquisite artwork. At the age of six, she began to discover her passion for art. She is now pursuing her art as a BFA  student at California State University Long Beach.  She is in her sixth year. She went abroad to Italy in her second year and she said it was the most beautiful and influential experience of her life. She was extremely inspired by Michael Angelo’s work she saw, which lead her to the decision of sharing her life.

Three of the four pieces were shown, for she is in the process of finishing the fourth, all of which are oil paintings on canvas. She titled them “Dawn”, “Day”, “Dusk”, and “Night”, each of which are all representations of different stages of her life. They all consist of a path, which is the path of life one takes to discover who they are and where they want to go. “Dawn” is a representation of her adolescent years. There is a path but you do not know what you are are doing until you figure out what you are doing.  “Day” focuses on Palmer’s college experience, specifically at the ages of 18 and 19. This painting is from the perspective of being on the path, for you are in the midst of discovering yourself and your potential life plan, with the mountains, or your future, in the distance but not clearly laid out, for you are not sure exactly where you are going. Her final piece called “Night”, although not finished, represents her reflection about her experiences, and who she has become now.

I think her posts are very beautiful and detailed. She began drawing her series but with advice , she changed her “path” to painting. The first thing she drew was a flower and now her drawings have evolved drastically.
